Best Use

Powder — Best in soft snow and powering through crud and chunder after the storm passes.

We designed the Citadel to be both light and stable, a combination not previously possible. To achieve this, we doubled the amount of VibeStop™ (HDT) embedded in the aspen core and extended the VibeStop™ channels almost the entire length of the ski. This additional amount of vibration-reducing VibeStop™ allows the Citadel to weigh in at under 1,650g/ski, yet be more stable than a ski with far more weight. It’s the best of both words. At 106mm underfoot, it’s soft-snow oriented and yet versatile enough to use as an everyday charger. Float in the powder, and grip on the groomers.

“Renoun is a genuine pioneer in featherweight ski design. A full-carbon ski, the Citadel 106 stacks up against the most weight-conscious backcountry sticks, but doesn’t suffer from the same chattery stiffness as the others in that class. It skis very much like a precision metal resort cruiser, especially as you open it up. The ski relies on a proprietary and top-secret aerospace polymer that the ice-mad Vermonter scientists call VibeStop™. The faster you ski, the more pressure you apply—or the choppier the terrain—the damper and more powerful the ski gets.”

We embed channels of a non-newtonian polymer called VibeStop™ into every ski we make. When exposed to vibrations, the polymer hardens actively damping the ski. It literally adapts to snow conditions and ski style. It’s the first of its kind, sounds too good to be true, right?!

Quiver killer

Overall amazing ski. Mounted them with the Salomon S/Lab touring binding. In bounds with the kiddos, check. Backcountry, check. Bumps, check. Cliffs, check. All in the 20 days I could get in prior to a pandemic. Keeping up with the kiddos in bounds requires very high speeds and the ski is rock solid. Clearly the HDT technology works. Tight trees with deep powder and the ski was ultra responsive. Very light, not quite as light as a pure touring ski, but the little bit of extra weight was easily outweighed with the ear to ear grin heading back down. A quick shoutout to the guys at Renoun. I was searching for a new ski and they asked great, knowledgable questions, and gave me a quick pros/cons of two different skis that they thought would work. Needless to say... #nailedit! Thanks!!!

Super punchy, low swing weight

This flex is absolutely sweet, I can butter them just fine and they're super punchy. They have such a low swing weight anyway, very easy to spin and super fun to charge bump fields on as they pivot on a dime, so they don't feel too rigid at all. I've been trying to relate them back to other skis I've demo'd in the past year... they have the punchiness of the Mantra M5 mixed with the charging swerve of the Rustler 10 and the playfulness of the Candide range, and they have it all in a ski that weighs a fraction of nothing. Next level business indeed. My biggest fear before getting on them was that they'd lose feel due to their lightness in the same way as Fischer's Ranger series did for me... nope, no worries there at all. I still can't quite figure them out in the air, but thats just cos they're light and not due to a lack of feel or feedback. My problem, not theirs.

Lightweight Powder and Touring Weapon

After skiing on the Citadel for 100+ days this past season, I have had the opportunity to test this ski in every condition. As expected, the Citadel performs excellent in the soft snow and powder. On the other hand, don't be afraid let these puppies run on the hard-pack- The HDT is no joke. The faster you go, the more stable the ski becomes, the stability almost feels unlimited at high speeds. I also had the opportunity to tour on these skis last season. Coming from the Icelantic Nomad 105s the first thing I noticed was the difference in weight and how much faster and with less energy it took for me to tour. All around and excellent ski and would highly recommend it to anybody looking for an all mountain ski that can ski pretty much anything.

How Does It Compare?

Endurance 98

The Endurance 98 is the wider brother to the Endurance 88 and is overal a slightly more versatile design. For skiers who realistically ski 50% of their days off of hardpack, it's great for variable snow depths, trees, and the occasional pow day. The Endurance 98 is suited for those who don't need as much float at the Citadel 106 or quite as much grip as the Endurance 88. View Endurance 98 >
