Finding the best après ski bars in South Lake Tahoe (SLT) is like shooting fish in a barrel — they’re hard to miss. You'll find a plethora of relaxed outdoor fire pits and a high density of bars and clubs all within walking distance of the Heavenly gondola.
As far as ski towns go, South Lake Tahoe is known for drinking, dancing, partying, and generally letting loose. I lived in South Lake Tahoe when first starting Renoun Skis back in 2012. Since then, I've been lucky to travel to many destinations around the world, but SLT is still at the top of my list in terms of après ski scenes.
The long and short of South Lake? It's just plain nutty. Here are some of our favorite après ski bars in South Lake Tahoe.
Great Outdoor Vibe: Lake Tahoe AleWorX
Best pizza in town paired with music, beer, cocktails, and dancing
Just a short walk from the base of the Heavenly gondola, AleWorx has live music, dance parties, an outdoor fire pit, and fancy wristbands so you can pour yourself your own drink. Refuel with their woodfired pizza — some of the best in town. Noteworthy cocktails too.

Best Music/DJ: Azul Latin Kitchen
Great live music and walking distance from the base of the Heavenly gondola
Hands down the place to go for music. With an outdoor stage and lawn games like cornhole, it's a great place to find yourself once your legs get loose – and all within walking distance from the gondola at the base of Heavenly.

Classic Pub: McP's
A classic pub – need we say more?
Super close to the gondola, you'll find classic pub fare, cheap PBRs, and live music every night. If you can’t get enough of pub grub and don't mind a 10-minute walk, try Mott Canyon next.

Phone Number: (530) 542-4435
Après-All-Day: Steins Beer And Drafts
A yurt with brews and a view
Halfway up Heavenly at the base of the Sky Express lift, Steins reminds us of our days spent in the Alps — an absolutely no-frills place to grab a pint and soak in the view. Keep it classic: grab a brat and pretzel, and don't bother with the other offerings.
Address: 4080 Lake Tahoe Blvd South Lake Tahoe
Phone Number: Not around here!
Local Vibe: Whiskey Dicks
More “dive” than “après” — and we love it for that
An absolute classic. Cheap drinks, no-frills, lackluster service — all the things that make a great dive bar. If you’re feeling competitive, hit the pool tables or the shuffleboard.
Address: 2660 Lake Tahoe Blvd #1a, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
Phone Number: (530) 544-3857
Best Cocktails: Jimmy's
Great cocktails — and on the lake
This is a classier establishment, making it the perfect place to go for the best cocktails in South Lake Tahoe. The views of the lake and large patio make it hard to leave.
