Sink or Skim? Taking the Renoun Citadels for a Float

Sink or Skim? Taking the Renoun Citadels for a Float

“The lake was calling my name, and the Citadels were ready for an aquatic adventure.”

Citadel - The Duckboat of skis?

Need a ski that can truly do it all, all year long? From May until December, skis sit in storage, patiently waiting to return to the slopes. After all, even the most robust all-mountain skis are useless without a snowy hill to slide down. That is, they were until one sunny, summer day in Burlington, VT when Renoun founder Cyrus and fellow skier Matt decided to troubleshoot this dilemma.

As avid skiers always looking to push the boundaries, Cyrus Schenck and Matt Testa took their shared passion to Lake Champlain—water skiing on Renoun Citadels. They were made for slicing through fresh powder, so why not extend the turn into another season?

“The lake was calling my name, and the Citadels were ready for an aquatic adventure,” Schenck said of his endeavor “I strapped on my skis, grabbed the tow rope, and let 'er rip!”

"The looks on people's faces as I sailed by were priceless—a beautiful mixture of confusion, admiration, and questioning my mental stability."

The first few attempts involved more falling than skiing. But with a few adjustments (and a lifejacket for buoyancy), the duo eventually found their groove. Once Schenck got a hang of the dock start, anything was possible.

“There I was, skimming across the water's surface like a majestic waterfowl, Schenck said.”The looks on people's faces as I sailed by were priceless—a beautiful mixture of confusion, admiration, and questioning my mental stability.”

Testa gives props to the Citadel’s Vibestop technology and the model’s overall adaptability. Their damp, smooth ride helped keep him stable and in control, even when skimming across a choppy lake. Of course, Schenck, on the other hand, couldn’t necessarily recommend using downhill skis for this type of maritime madness.

In the end, though, who says you need to stick to the defined purpose of your gear? If you've got a wild idea and a little bit of grit, anything is possible. It might even extend your ski season all year long…but your summer miles may vary.
