Best Cars for Skiing

Strap in, there is better way to get to the mountain this time year.

These are the best cars to get you, your gear, and your ski buddy out skiing. There are plenty others to choose from, but these are best fitted for getting you safely up the winter roads and on the chair before anyone else.

And these aren’t ‘winter only’ cars - they’re 4-wheel-drive machines that are good all year round.

BMW 328d xDrive

The turbo diesel-powered BMW 328d xDrive is the most fuel-efficient all-wheel drive vehicle sold in America today. Along with extreme fuel efficiency, the xDrive system with variable torque splitting can redistribute 100% of the car's power between the front and rear axle — guaranteeing optimal power for the best traction. The Cold Weather option package will net you heated front and rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. The 328d is also offered as a sports wagon for more space to haul gear up to the mountain.

Why it's good for skiing: Legendary BMW ride quality and the most efficient AWD car in America means you’ll only be stopping for coffee.

Audi A4

The Audi A4 is sort of like the ideal “All-Mountain ski”. It’s spacious, luxurious, affordable, and well-designed feat of German engineering — all under one panoramic sunroof. It checks all the boxes for an everyday driver: good gas mileage, isn’t obnoxiously large and can handle itself in rougher conditions. The Audi “Quattro” AWD system has a proven track record and with the A4 being a family-geared car you can enjoy amenities like three-zone automatic climate controls and a sunroof. Most importantly the Audi A4 is an IIHS top safety pick which means human cargo will be protected — better keep those skis off the roof then.

Why it's good for skiing: The Audi A4 is perfectly unflashy and suited for a family with its spacious and luxury interior paired with the highest safety rating Uncle Sam hands out.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

Porsche is obviously known for outstanding agility and speed on the racetrack, but on the snow? They thrive as well, especially their AWD variants like the 911 Carrera 4S. You won't be driving o a foot of snow but for a sports coupe, this is a very capable car. Slap a roof rack on this demon and you have one of the only 2 door cars in the resort parking lot. Just don't forget you are in a true sports car — only this one is bred for the snow.

Why it's good for skiing: The 4-wheel drive Carrara gives pause to the others on the racetrack yet has the grip to handle the mountain road — a rare combination.

Tesla Model S

We’re all familiar with the most technologically advanced car in the world. This electric car phenomenon can drive itself up the mountain with its 8 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors watching every direction simultaneously. The Model S has a range of 335 miles, enough to get up and down the mountain with plenty of energy left over to heat the cabin, the seats, and the steering wheel during the trip. The Model S is such an advanced car technologically so, of course, it has an incredible AWD system that works wonders in the snow and on asphalt helping the Model S go 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds.

Why it's good for skiing: The Model S has the lowest center of gravity of any car in the world giving insane levels of control all the way up the mountain road. Better buckle in, kids too.
