Behind The Artwork
The 10th anniversary Z-90’s distinctive graphics are a striking new direction from Renoun’s typical geometric patterns. Designer Richard Morin, who created the original Renoun Endurance artwork a decade ago, found inspiration for the Z-90 in cosmic imagery, molecular alchemy, and natural phenomena.
The result is the organic golden swirls that flow along the ski’s topsheet. “I wanted to visualize the molecular alchemy of the VibeStop™ polymer in Renoun skis,” Morin says. “How a young skier with a dream eclipsed an industry, winning international awards with his first ski.” The resulting artwork is fluid, and, notes Renoun founder Cyrus, its beauty lies in the interpretation of the individual, as with any true artwork.

I've explored independent ski manufacturers for years. My first pair of Renoun skis were the original Z90. I was blown away by them. They easily managed the varying conditions and terrain found on the east coast. After several seasons I sold them to a friend. Since then I skied the Atlas 80 and the Endurance 88. Each ski was incredible and managed the snow and terrain they were designed for. As a patroller you can't pick and choose your skis to match the condition or terrain of the day. I longed for the versatility of the Z90. When Renoun brought back the Z90, I think I was the 14th to place an order. After skiing them a dozen times, I ordered a second pair. I've been skiing for 60 years and the Renoun product is by far the best I've driven.

After only one day on the Z-90, very impressed. Skied only on groomed runs so far, these skis can rip long GS turns and are light enough to quick SL turns edge to edge. Compared against my old skies turning on the Vibestop was very noticeably effective when turning on ice balls. Vibestop made the turns take less energy with less fatigue. Looking forward to how they respond off piste.

As of this writing I only have three days of use. They are a fine ski, one day was on frozen corduroy, the ski was not as damp as expected considering the VibeStop material inside the ski. I really would like to ski them in powder to see if they carve in soft snow.

The Z-90 is indeed a ski for the ages.
Every once in a while, a ski gets under my skin that is so good and so different that it separates itself from the pack. Skis that not only I think are special but so do others with discerning tastes. These are skis that have changed everything. Skis that when you put them in the rack at the lodge, you walk away, look back at them, and think "I'm not that hungry, let's take another couple of runs." Skis that I don’t have to ski, but that I want to ski. Skis that make even the most marginal conditions skiable.
